Summer Hiking at Umstead

Posted on Jul 26 2014 - 6:29pm

We had a big crew including 11 scouts, 5 siblings and lots of parents take on a 1.9 mile hike in Umstead State Park.  It was a gorgeous day, although a little humid, to hike near a meandering stream where we got to see lots of different kinds of trees.  Missed today's hike?  Come join us on our next hike at Eno River State Park...more details are on the calendar.

Sailing Away!

Posted on Jul 16 2014 - 10:33pm

We escaped the deluge of rain last night for a beautiful night of sailing in the gutters.  The scouts quickly learned that rudderless boats don't sail well (sorry Ian) and simple designs (half a buttermilk bottle + a cup glued in for the sail--go Tripp and Cam!) did well.  Thanks to all the scouts who participated in tonight's event and thanks to Justin Abood for setting it up!

Night with the Bulls

Posted on Jun 22 2014 - 9:56am

We dodged all the rain and enjoyed a night with the Durham Bulls.  The Bulls didn't fair so well against Syracuse but we enjoyed it anyway.  Camping on the outfield was great this year.  It cool off and a breeze rolled through after the game.  Plenty of other Cub Scout and Boy Scouts around to make this a great Community event!

Summer Hike at Falls Lake

Posted on Jun 15 2014 - 11:16pm

We had a great hike at Blue Jay Pointy County Park on Saturday.  The Cubs went 2 miles over rolling terrain on Falls Lake.  A couple of the boys served as Hike Leaders and did a great job keeping everyone together.  We ended the morning at the Environmental Center and looked over the collection.  We learned a lot and had fun in the outdoors!

Science on the Big Screen!

Posted on Jun 8 2014 - 9:41pm

We kicked off our summer science program today with a viewing of "Mysteries of the Unseen World" at the IMAX theater at Marbles Museum!  Despite having to navigate Raleigh during high school graduations and a food truck rodeo, we had 49 people in attendance today!  The scouts loved the viewing and had excellent observations and questions about the movie.  As a bonus, we completed the first requirement of the "Science Everywhere" NOVA award.  Great job scouts!

Beautiful Hike at Little River Regional Park

Posted on May 3 2014 - 9:11pm

While we had a small group today, we all enjoyed this longer hike to the Little River in Orange County!  We were able to hear the water rushing over the rocks, the birds cheeping as we walked by, and the rustle of the leaves in the wind.  We also let the scouts lead the hike by navigating the trail signs.  Weren't able to attend today, check the calendar for dates and times of our upcoming summer hikes!
